A master-class on collecting and processing of data from social networking sites

On April 21 2017, Sergey Suslov, a Resource Center specialist, conducted a master-class on collecting and processing data from social networking sites (on the example of VKontakte social networking site). The master-class took place as part of the activities of the VIII International youth scientific conference on electoral processes in today’s world (Political Science department of St.Petersburg State University).

A telephone survey focusing on political preferences of the Leningrad region residents and their assessment of social and economic situation of the region has finished

The telephone survey has ended.  The survey focused on political preferences of the Leningrad region residents, their assessment of social and economic situation in the region, their attitudes towards local authorities and institutions and that towards current region’s problems. A quota sample was 1500 respondents. The data are being processed.

Collaboration with Huazhong University of Science and Technology

Within the agreement for cooperation, the staff of the RC Aleksandra Tsareva, Ksenia Tsyganova and Dmitry Tsyganov visited the Huazhong University of Science and Technology from June 5 to June 9. During the visit, they learned about research conducted at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. For their part, the staff of the RC delivered a presentation of the main software developments and technologies used and demonstrated examples of studies conducted at the Center of Sociological and Internet Research.

Participation in the conference

Aleksandra Tsareva, Ksenia Tsyganova and Dmitry Tsyganov participated in the international conference "Network for Social Network Analysis" held in Beijing from 30.05.17 to 04.06.17. Ksenia Tsyganova presented a paper "What binds us online: Friendship vs. Communication ties?”. The paper co-authored with D. Tsyganov and A. Gruzd (Ryerson University, Canada).

The survey will help understand and analyze possible risks of international youth migration in such fields as labor, education, health, culture and entertainment, social and political life and social security. A telephone survey analyzes possibilities for deferred ageing in St.Petersburg. A quota sample size is about 800 residents of St.Petersburg. The research lead is Irina Andreevna Grigorieva, Doctor of Sociology, professor of the theory and practice of social work chair. The survey will help get reliable statistical data on what the elderly of St.Petersburg think about possibilities of deferred ageing or active ageing.
